Significance

Heterogeneous catalysis is one of the most economic methods for organic synthesis because the used catalysts are recyclable. The authors have developed two new silicon-based monoliths functionalized with Pd(0) or with a modified Jørgensen catalyst for use in hydrogenation and Mannich reactions, respectively.

Comment

The hydrogenation and Mannich reactions proceed rapidly and efficiently under flow conditions to afford the corresponding products in satisfactory yields with high stereoselectivities.
