Significance
2,3-Diethynyl-butadienes (DEBDs) have been reported sparsely throughout the literature, but no general synthetic protocol has been reported. In this article the authors disclose a general route towards DEDBs, allowing for investigation of their stability, reactivity, and application in materials.

Comment
DEBD derivatives can be accessed through a Sonogashira-type coupling, allowing access to a variety of substitution patterns on both the alkyne and alkene moieties. Further derivatization allows for synthesis of radialenes 1 and 2 and expanded dendralene 3.
