Significance

The authors describe a copper-catalyzed silylation of aryl allenes using a silylborane reagent, leading to vinyl silane building blocks in high (56–95%) yield. The application of a seven-membered NHC ligand (A) proved to be crucial.

Comment

From a mechanistic point of view, the catalytically generated allyl copper intermediate is intercepted by the aldehyde in a diastereoselective three-component coupling to the furnish homoallylic alcohols.
