Significance

Taylor and co-workers report a copper(II)-mediated cyclization for the synthesis of spirocyclic bis-oxindoles. The formation of two all-carbon quaternary centers, which proceeds in a diastereoselective manner, leads to the desired products in fair to good yields.

Comment

In addition, the method was extended to the preparation of bis-oxindoles with an acyclic carbon chain and a diketone linker.
