Significance

The authors report a net redox-neutral cross-coupling reaction catalyzed by gold(I), affording various allylbenzenes. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions and with identical efficiency in the presence of air and water.

Additionally, a mechanistic proposal is given including stoichiometric experiments and the isolation of a gold(III) allyl complex.
