Significance

The authors describe the efficient copper-catalyzed α-amination of phosphonates and phosphine oxides using O-benzoyl hydroxylamines. The amination reaction was achieved in good yields at room temperature. A broad scope of functional groups could be tolerated.

Comment

Currently, the development of an asymmetric α-amination reaction using a chiral catalyst is underway.
