Significance
Hypervalent fluorinated sulfur molecules represent an elusive class of compounds in organic chemistry; as such, their electronic properties are largely uninvestigated. Methods which produce these compounds are valuable, as they allow for more facile incorporation of these interesting functional groups into organic materials.

Comment
The chlorotetrafluorosulfanyl arene precursors are readily synthesized by the reaction of a diaryl disulfide with chlorine gas in the presence of KF or CsF (T. Umemoto, L. M. Garrick, N. Saito Beilstein J. Org. Chem. 2012, 8, 461).
