Significance
The β-amino acids, which are unnatural amino acids, and their derivatives are compounds of remarkable versatility. The authors have developed this novel β-amino acid synthesis from simple alkylamines.

Comment
The hydroaminoalkylation of silylated alkenes was performed with the help of a tantalum catalyst. Further Boc protection and oxidation led to the corresponding β-amino acids.
