Synthesis of Hydroxymates of α-Amino Acids
Simple One-Flask Method for the Preparation of Hydroxamic Acids.
Org. Lett. 2003;

Significance
Hydroxamic acids are key motifs in organic synthesis and chemical biology, with promising biological activities such as antibacterial, antifungal, antiinflammatory, and anti-asthmatic properties. In this study, the authors developed a cyanuric chloride and NMM-mediated one-step conversion of carboxylic acids into hydroxamic acids under mild conditions.

Comment
A series of hydroxymates of α-amino acids were synthesized by a cyanuric chloride and NMM-mediated one-step conversion from N-protected amino acids. This is a practically easy, one-pot, and efficient method for the synthesis of hydroxymates of α-amino acids.
